If a fw800 HD is daisy chained to a fw400 interface, will the drive only write @ 400?
my understanding ( from forum lurking) is the firewire bus will operate at the same speed as the lowest spec hardware on the particular bus.
which is your case means "yes"
heres what lacie say:
Thanks for the response.
So is it not a big deal to have a Ext. HD writing at 400 specs? Is there a way around this? Does a FW hub alleviate this problem?
it depends on how many tracks you are writing and reading at the same time.
take a look at this:
and build in a margin for error
a Hub wont make a difference.. they'd still be on the same FW bus.
I'm not entirely sure what I was reading on the Glyph test page, but I think I can deduce that fw400 speed shouldn't be a problem if I am only writing 2 tracks max at one time and my projects aren't hugely track heavy. Correct?
your deduction is correct.. 2 tracks you could do on USB
all the best
