Logic 9 Different Staff Sizes- Score Editor

Discussion in 'Logic 9' started by Christopher Pratt, Feb 27, 2013.

  1. I get really confused at the difference between staff styles and score sets. If I edit a staff style, particularly relating to space above and space below , it seems to change the parameters equally for all the regions in the track "segment" even though I want it to apply to only one region in one track. For notation sometimes one needs more space below/above depending on the tessitura of the instruments/voices or whether there are text lyrics inserted underneath the notes.

Is it possible to have different staff sizes in one full score? I've got a choral setting which needs a large font for the singers but the piano accompaniment doesn't need the same vertical space or notation size as far as the singers are concerned- but it's good for them to see it-- and vice versa for the pianist. She wants the notation big but doesn't need the lyric fonts at the same size as the singers.

If you can understand this you're a better man than I am Gunga Din.

It's in my book, "Scoring With Logic Pro 9"
  4. No problems with you being shameless :). Bet you didn't publish the book as East/West Lurker. I'd quite like to buy it but I'll need to know the author's name and by whom it is published. Also- is it available in the UK?

Staff styles are the look of a staff associated a region or regions. Clef type, staff size, polyphony, etc.

Score sets are a collection of staffs (staves?) that can be modified by content and look (braces, bar lines, order of parts, etc)

The thing you might be missing is that every region that shares a staff style with another region will be affected by the same adjustments. You should create a unique staff style for each part.

Yes, as well as different text font size and style for lyrics and cues, etc.

EastWest Lurker's book is a good product, I've a video series over at on the Score Editor if you're a video guy. Some people collect the set...

Jay Asher for Cengage. You can find it on Amazon.

I'm a book learner type of guy so I write books, but Doug's video stuff is excellent.
