Could someone possibly point me in the direction of a preset in one of Logic's built-in synths which is reasonably close to the "panning satellite" sound heard in seconds 6-10 of Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part I)"? I've tried creating my own sound from scratch, but my background in synthesizers is limited to whatever description is in the Logic manual. I grew up playing classical piano, for heaven's sake. I'm not looking for a carbon copy--just something in the ball park. I can tweak from there.

Thanks to anyone who can spare the time.

I reckon the synth sound you're talking about is from an ARP Solina, which is a string ensemble synth. Therefore, I'd say try messing around with some synth string or sampled string sounds and add some chorus and/or ensemble. Alternatively, the Sculpture synth can make some really cool string type sounds.

    Hope this helps.

I think the OP is looking for that stereo descending melodic tick effect that appears for a few moments over the string bed. For that, try going into your Channel Strip presets, look under Synthesizers/Sequence Elements/Popcorn, then add a Delay Designer to the existing plug-ins and set it to preset "1/4 Alternating Pan" (under "01 Simple Patterns) and play a descending gliss from the top of your keyboard. Whether the OP was looking for that or not, can I just say thank you, Sonny.

    I love that sound.
