What does everyone recommend for an audio interface for a imac running OSX 10.8? I was looking at the presonus 16.0.2 since it can be used as a mixer and multi-channel audio interface. is there anything like this that is less expensive? I would like 16 channels if possible. This is for a small digital recording studio I am building....

I just ordered the 1818VSL with a nice $70 or so discount from SAM SASH. I also ordered some cables and a patch panel. I will use my iPad 3 to control the 1818vsl as well as logic with a control surface app. this should really be a nice addition to my home studio...

    003 or Project Mix?

I have the 002 and the 003 looks like a great upgrade. The project mix from m-audio looks pretty cool if you are ok with that brand. That presonus you mentioned looks great too! I was checking it out. I would grab it if I had the cash. I am rolling with imac & mbp firewire to 002 with a cheap Korg and alesis control surfaces lol.

Not sure I would invest in out of production Avid hardware.
No telling how long they will support the hardware.
