I had this problem before with MS and it's still here with 2.1.1.

I have an external controller KB (M-Audio Ozone) which I use to trigger Ultrabeat samples and patterns. Sometimes it works perfectly, other times not.

This particular issue concerns triggering UB's pre-programmed patterns, which are assigned to trigger at note C -1, C# -1, D -1, etc.
Usually I hit, say C -1 and the pattern plays fine but sometimes (like right now) the pattern appears to trigger (i.e. UB starts moving graphically) but no sound comes out.
At the same time I can still trigger individual hits and hear them fine.

The only way to restore normal behaviour is to quit and reload.

Does anyone know if this apparent bug has a workaround that doesn't involve quitting? (Relaunching MS during a gig, with it's nippy loading time, isn't exactly a real crowd pleaser.)

Ehm, thanks for the reply but I'm not sure it addresses the problem in the way I might have hoped. :D

I don't use UltraBeat in my setup so can't really comment on sporadic behavior, but I'm also on 2.1.3. Reasons for not updating? (as it could cure the problem....)

    Sorry Doug,

The original message is from over a year ago and I've just noticed my signature still says 2.1.2 - I'm on 2.1.3 too.

    I'll go update my signature...

Man, I have to read post dates AND signatures?? :eeek:

I haven't heard/seen that UltraBeat problem happening. The Apple forum gets a lot more traffic on ManStage, it's possible someone there has had the problem. I've pretty much quit hanging out there as I find the revised interface is just a pill to deal with (IMHO).

Yeah, I haven't been there for a while, partly for the same reason.

    Thanks for idea though.

FWIW I've had the exact same problem with Ultrabeat. I like to have a button to toggle the pattern mode, too, and that seems a bit hit and miss, i.e. it works great about 80% of the time. Same for the "watch it play but get no beats". I think it's a bit better on Mainstage 2.2 but I've only had that for a few days. Otherwise, I've moved from 4 UB's to 1 plus a couple Playbacks with markers.

OT and for another post, but has anyone noticed the new assignments in 2.2? UB Transport->Play gives possible control values of Play, PlayM, Stop, StopM, and Change now. I've noticed others on Loopback.

Thanks - at least I know I'm not imagining it! :)

    I haven't checked out 2.2 yet.
    It's a paid upgrade, isn't it?

    New features worth it?

Haha! You aren't crazy. Chasing Mainstage bugs is like chasing ghosts.
I think so  Good thing I'm not gigging regularly with it though. Seems to be a point release away from a really good upgrade. Why does Apple treat something as useful as Mainstage like the mysterious bastard child hidden in the attic of Logic Mansion?
