Logic 9 Muted Tracks - CPU/Hard Disk Drain - Reduce?

I have a project with a lot of audio tracks that are muted. I'm getting disk-too-slow errors. Is there a way to put these tracks "offline" so that they are not draining cpu/hard disk resources? In Sonar (I've just switched from Sonar to Logic Pro 9), you can "archive" unused or muted audio tracks so that they don't drain cpu or hard disk resources. I can't seem to find a comparable thing in Logic and can't find anything in the manual that addresses this.

Select the region and press "m". that will mute the region rather than the track. I believe that should do the trick.

It used to be that is you muted the track in the arrange window it would take the track "offline" and no longer use the DSP. I am not sure if it still works, but you could try that one as well.

There are 3 kinds of MUTE in Logic:

    1) Region Mute. The default keycommand is or "m" use the Mute tool. This takes the region offline - it's no longer being streamed from the hard drive. That's why it takes a moment to hear the results of muting a region (or unmuting a region).

    2) ChannelStrip Mute. That's the little "M" button at the bottom of every fader. This simply silences the audio. It does NOT take the region(s) on that track offline. The audible result is therefore instant.

    3) Arrange Track Mute. This one can be confusing. Under Preferences > Audio > General you can change the behaviour. If you set it to "Fast", then it is the same as hitting Mute in a ChannelStrip. If you set it to "Slow" then it is the same as muting every region in that particular track.

The SOLO function obeys all of the above rules too. This makes sense, since solo is really "mute everybody else but me".

Thanks! That's a lot of great information.
