Reference Monitors

I am in the process of getting new reference monitors for music creation and some mixing (perhaps some lofi mastering as well). I am looking in the market to spend about $500 and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or advice. The size I am looking for is 5" woofers, a flat frequency response, especially in the low end, adjustable EQ on the back for adjustments to the room, and each speaker to be powered separately. I am looking through some mackie speakers and some maudio, but was wondering what you all thought?

I use Event ALP 5's and like them for the price.

M-Audio BX5-a have a good reputation for the money.

If you can afford Mackie 824 mk2, they are highly recommended. They are very common in studios in Nashville.
