Logic 9 Sound Toys Plugs in Logic 9

    Howdy folks!

    So I've been mixing in logic 9 with the Sound Toys Native package lately- if you don't have them you're missing out on some great plugs-
    Anyway, i've noticed little pops in the audio on tracks with ST plugs instantiated.
    I emailed support at Sound Toys and was told something I didn't know about logic: Logic turns OFF DSP on tracks when there is no audio. So, If you, like me, like to delete dead space in regions - Logic shuts off DSP on that track until it sees audio again.
    The result is a pop - almost like phantom power- when the Sound Toys plugs
    power up! QUITE ANNOYING!
    Is there anyway in preferences to leave DSP ON all the time or is this just
    in the code and we're stuck with it?
    My only work around is to write mute automation on tracks with ST plugs.

    Is there a way to create blank regions in between audio bits to fool the software?
    I guess I know now how Logic is able to run so many of it's own plug-ins with very little tax on the system.

    I would just merge each track so it's one continuous region and then automate a quick volume fade in at the top of the song for that track. Waves plugins seem to have a similar issue.

    That should not be happening. It doesn't happen with any of the AUs I have here

    Not automatically. You could create some blank audio regions and paste them into place as required, or use Volume Automation to lower the channel strip volume in passages where you don't wish there to be any audio present.

    It is however possible that sound toys need to look at their Plugins, particularly how they empty their cache. There is a part of the AU protocoll which governs how a Plugin behaves under the circumstances you describe. If this is not implemented properly - and the AU Dev needs to do this - the popping or "echoes" of the last audio to run through the plugin may be noticed. Lots of Plugin Developers have had to deal with this, and when they did, the problem went away. In fairness I can't say for certain whether or not this is the issue that is causing you problems with sound toys, I don't have any of their software.

    That I believe is certainly part of it.

    I suggest the "bug" is in the code of Soundtoys, since they seem to be the only ones who have this issue...

    I was getting the pop sound today using Amplitube 3(64 bit native). I had to automate the volume off at the top of the song to fix it.

    No doubt that it is. The support person at Sound Toys offered that all
    their plugs were "born" in Pro Tools. So, obviously they have some tweaking to do.
