Even Audacity, which is freeware, can do this. When audio is being recorded, the waveform is displayed in real time as it is recorded. In Logic, the audio is recorded, then the waveform preview is created. This makes Logic feel kind of cheesy and clunky in this respect when you are used to what so many other programs are capable of.
 
Yes to both. It still bothers me that I can't see a proper visual graphical feedback of recording while in progress. I panic and think that something is routed wrong and I am actually recording silence rather than the undoubtedly brilliant once-in-a-lifetime performance which might now be lost forever into the oblivion of what might have been.
