Logic Pro 9 pitch bend

Apparently Logic will import pitch bend messages and, though I can see the pitch bends in the hyper editors, I don't hear them at all in the playbacks.

I don't think it's possible to get realistic-sounding violins etc. without pitch bends, patricularly in solo patches as real string players are constantly sliding, more or less obviously.

Any ideas about this? I've carefully worked on them successfully in other programs but how would these be edited to make them audible in Logic?

Not sure about the various synths, but EXS24 will respond based on how many semtones the bend is set to. If it's set to 0, then nothing will happen.

If you are importing MIDIfiles, thenmof course how it responds may depend on the correct pitchbend response range in the iSI.

Thanks,

I recall from my earlier days sequencing MIDIfiles that the setup requires the range indication but I'm not sure what the iSI is or how to set these ranges. But, yes, I'm using EXS24 instruments.

Sorry, I wrote "iSI", but meant "SI" as in software instrument or virtual instrument, e.g. any of Logic's instruments or sample player ESX24.

How Bout Portamento For Sheer String Slidyness And General Reality?

If you need to have sliding why not just put portamento onto the strings program? that would make it far more realistic than using pitchbend and mean you dont have to bother with anything other than playing the part and then fine tuning the portamento amount.

Thanks Stephe,

But how do I set that up?

It may be that I will want also to set specific slides as well and have only just started to work with that. Not really totally successful so far.
