Logic Pro 9 Master strip won't set to stereo, won't show inserts.

I've checked that that no other strip is set to quad, but even so in this project, my Master strip shows quad, even though there's no button to change it.
Consequently, there are no insert slots and I can't import my favourite settings.
If I use simply Output 1-2, my favourite settings don't appear in the preset menu - I need Master to unify with the other projects in this album.

How do I set my Master to stereo, which I guess would open the insert slots?

I doubt that it's my general Prefs, since the related projects have active and configurable master strips.

Correction: when the Master channel strip is active, it shows as quad and my Output 1-2 strip loses it's insert slots. The Master strip allows inserts but none of them are my library.

The default "Master" is a controller for all the outputs that is mostly useful for when you are going out of the box with multiple outputs to a mixer or doing surround. It does not have inserts for that reason. For stereo mixing, you want to put your plug-ins on the stereo output.

Problem solved. I did indeed have an unused mike channel strip set to output 'surround'.

When I was checking for this earlier, I looked at the icons at the foot of each strip, single ring for mono, double ring for stereo and something else ( star?) for surround. None of my strips had anything but either stereo or mono icons.

Today I went to the environment/All Objects layer and deleted all unused instruments. Suddenly my Stereo Output had inserts again!
So I went back and deleted unused instruments one by one until I got to this one ( of two) vibraphone mike which was sending to 'surround', clearly finger trouble many moons ago. The Icon at the bottom showed stereo, which is why I missed this

thanks for your help, Jay

Hi Mr. Jay, I tried deleting the sorround instruments but it didn't work. Help me please!
