Logic Pro 7 & earlier How do I install Logic Pro 7 Again? HELP!

Hi, I am new to this forum so an answer to this question might be out there...

I 've been having lots of little problems with Logic 7 and I want to reinstall it: it does not find EXS24 files, it won't play some files in Apple Loops -it doesn't seem to find the aswell-, and it won't work with an Akai MPD 16.

Can any one give me any advice on how I should unistall Logic 7 and install it again... I don't want to do this and end up with the same problems -it has happened before-.

My version of Logic 7 was an upgrade from the Gold version -I think-. I have the EXS Key, Logic 7 Install disc and the Logic Pro 7 Content disc.

I have a Mac Book Pro 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM.

Hey suavecolombiano,

if you have the dongle and the install CDs you should be good to go. I am running L7 also on the same machine you have and OSX 10.5.7. just fine - and do prefer it hugely over L8, btw.

The only thing is that you need Logic 7.2.3 of course. Make sure that your CD is with this version. Otherwise you will need to get it somewhere.

As for the Content CD, I don't use the factory stuff and did not install it. But I suppose you can just copy all the banks from the CD to the location where they are now on your system.

I have Logic versión 7.1.1 so I do need to upgrade...

I'm aware that Logic 9 just came out, do you think it's worth upgrading? In the U.S. it sells for USD150, which seems reasonable, but... What do you think?

I have Logic versión 7.1.1 so I do need to upgrade...

Logic 7.1.1 is coded to run natively on PPC Macs. You have an Intel Mac, so logic is running on it in rosetta mode. This means, very very slow, quite possibly unstable, and if you have any UB/Intel compatible plugins installed they will not be accessible in Logic 7.1.1.

I'm aware that Logic 9 just came out, do you think it's worth upgrading?

In this case definitely. Even though Logic 8 and 9 have somewhat higher system requirements than was the case with L7, you should see much better performance as L9 is written to run natively on your machine.

I think 7.2 was a minimally paid upgrade at £20 in the UK but I have a notoriously bad memory. These would no longer be available as it was about 4 years ago!

I would say in this instance the upgrade to Logic 9 is the way to go. Most people on the LUG seem prefer the facelift and enhancements overall whilst some don't although I have no statistics to prove this!

Here in Germany, back when they were offered, the 7.1 DVD cost 19.95 Euros (AFAIR this was in 2005), the 7.2 DVD cost 49.95 Euros, it was available from some time in 2006 up until June 2007. As Tony says, the problem could be tracking (a genuine) 7.2 DVD down now. Furthermore, the feature set of logic 7 is from 2004, this version is basically 5 years old plus the updates that 7.1 and 7.2 brought with it.

Thanks everyone for you kind suggestions. I think I will go for the upgrade to Logic 9.

I had no idea that Logic 7.1 was designed for PowerPC and that performance is negatively affected with the Intel processor. This will prove to be the decisive argument to take the leap.
