Logic Pro 9 adding slurs in score editor

When I drag slurs from the part box to the score, they do not go to the place I tried to to deposit them, rather they appear in a meaningless location under the staff. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to do this properly.

First, make sure you are assigning them to the correct stave if you are in score view.

Second, find the key command for this and use it. It will be way faster and most of the time look pretty good. Select the notes needing the slur, use the appropriate command and you're done.

I also found that working on a single instrument staff eases the process of adding ornaments.
