Logic Pro Alphatrack and Logic x...

Hi All,

I've been using my Frontier Designs Alphatrack for a while with Logic X with no problems. Suddenly today it's not communicating with Logic at all. I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling, trashing prefs, everything...but no go. More importantly, the FD website appears to be offline...is this true?

Anyone have any experience with this combo? I'm running Logic 10.0.7 on Mac OS 10.9.3.

The Alphatrack manager sees the unit, but I can't get Logic to recognize it anymore. I've made sure the alphatrack.bundle is in the Logic midi drivers folder, so not sure what I'm missing. Having the FD website down is a major PITA.

Any fixes/thoughts/advice? Is it time for something newer/relevant?

I don't have an Alphatrack but ...

  • Is the Alphatrack in the Control Surface Setup?
  • Do you have "Bypass all Control Surfaces" active?
  • "Rebuild Defaults" may help.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply. No, it's not showing up at all in the Control Surface Setup, which doesn't make sense. Bypass isn't selected and have rebuilt defaults numerous times.

To make matters more strange, now when I touch the fader, it plays a high midi note, and when I hit mute it plays a low one. Shift plays one in the middle of the keyboard. Most bizarre thing ever.

Does anyone know if there are certain prefs I can delete that might solve things? Or perhaps my unit has just gone kaput....although the alphatrack manager sees it fine.

This is crazy. Thanks Frontier Design!!!!! :-/

Ok, got it fixed. FINALLY was able to access FD's website...not sure why it was down. Re-downloaded their 1.4.1 AT driver and bundle file. Uninstalled and reinstalled...per instructions. All is well...phew.

Thanks guys for the replies. Appreciate it greatly.

Hey Guys,
As of the Logic 10.2 update I can no longer get Alphatrack to work correctly. It doesn't seem to be following my track selection reliably and is off by one track. If I click on track number one it's on track 2, etc. I can get it work if I select tracks via alphatrack. I realize this thing is no longer supported but I thought I'd see if people are still able to use it successfully. I've deleted controller prefs, rebuilt defaults, uninstalled and reinstalled all alphatrack related software and drivers, all with no effect. Thanks for any help.

Bit of a wait, but the Alphatrack has been resurrected with 10.2.1 It's following track selection, even when skipping banks 🙂 Finally!
