Logic Pro 9 Apple loops in Sampler style

Hi,

I'm thinking of creating some bass loops for myself. Often, what I need is a steady 8th note feel on the same note. So to do so, I'm thinking of recording 2 bars of each note on the bass and using the Apple Loops Utility, I could use the loops to build my bass line and I would be able to change the tempo.

However, I'm wondering, would there be a way to have those loops spread on various keys of my keyboard (sampler style). That would allow me to record my music in realtime.

So once I have my apple loops, would anyone know how I can use them in a sampler style? Can Logic do that? Or maybe Stylus is the only one who can?If so, would it be better to create rex files instead of Apple Loops?

Hi,
There is a way but it requires extra Environment setup which can control the Audio Tracks (Apple Loops) via MIDI. I have created one in the pass but I assure you it is not easy.

Or maybe Stylus is the only one who can?

This is easier. Create Rex files and convert them via the SAGE convertor into Stylus RMX format. Load the user Suite and switch to "Goove" mode which will load the samples into the RAM so you can trigger them via key switches in real time.
That may require some temporary transpositions in Logic because the Stylus Gooove mode is designed for drums.

If I'm understanding correctly, why not just use the "create sampler instrument" function that splits up an audio region by transient, maps it chromatically across the keyboard, and creates a corresponding MIDI region to trigger the samples. You can use the MIDI region. Or you can trigger the individual slices from your keyboard in real time and record it as a MIDI performance.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that.

But would I be able to speed up or slow down the tempo without creating gaps or cutting notes in an awkward way?

(What's nice about Stylus is that you can either play in slice mode having a chromatic Midi notes or play in groove mode playing the full measure, but in both modes, it will always follow the tempo).

Technically no, there's no time stretching that goes on. But depending on the material, it'll usually sound okay within a modest range of variation.
