Logic Pro 9 audio file names changed?

I just finished mixing a song and I wanted to make a final cleaned up project folder that I could burn to DVD for a backup to give to the client.

There was lots of unused stuff that I hadn't deleted, so I "saved as" a new logic file and first deleted all muted unused junk, made sure all take folders were at least flattened, made sure there weren't any hidden tracks with more unused regions etc.

I didn't want to actually delete unused audio from my hard disc right away, so I went to the bin, selected unused files and cleared them from the bin.

Now with things looking much more presentable I "saved as" to a new project folder and saved assets so that I would have only the necessary files for the song and sample files etc. in the project folder.

I then burned the project folder to a DVD for safe keeping.

The weird thing is, when I checked the new project folder by sticking the DVD in my new 13 mac book pro, there were a number of audio files in the arrange whose names had apparently changed. Since the names had changed, Logic of course couldn't find the files. I checked the song again on my main Mac Pro and the names were the correct original file names.

The files in the Audio Files folder appear to be the correct ones and the audio bin also has the correct files in it. Only certain audio files in the arrange seem to have changed names by themselves.

Any ideas why this may be taking place?

Thanks for the hint about long file names. Didn't know that could be an issue when burning DVDs. The file names are long, but they look like they actually changed rather than got cut off. I'll look into it and report back.

I've noticed that Logic doesn't seem to like long filenames at all, and whenever I import them, it always truncates and adds some (seemingly) random numeric sequence for the last few characters. There have been times when I've had to go out to the Finder and make a new copy of an audio file with a shorter name just to be able to import it (for example) into an EXS24 instrument. Not sure where in your procedure this might have happened, but this is my guess as to the cause of your issue.

Just an update in case anybody is experiencing the same problem...

I haven't gone ahead and shortened all the final troublesome audio file names yet which might solve the problem. I'd rather not if I didn't have to as that would make things a pain if I wanted to combine some older alternate mixes in the future.

The weird thing is that if I take the actual Logic file from the backup DVD and open it on my Mac Pro, the names of the files represented in the regions on the arrange page are correct, but if I open the same logic file on my new Mac Book Pro or my old 12 inch G4, the names are changed. One thing I just realized that I haven't done is update Logic on the Mac Book Pro to the newest version of L9. My old 12 inch is running Logic 8 and I want to keep it that way for now.

I know I haven't tried everything yet here, it takes time. Esp when burning DVDs is involved!
