Logic Pro 9 automation generates a noise

hi there,

I'm having a problem automating the delay in a track, I want the delay to only appear in the last two beats of a drum track and I thought I could achieve this by setting the mix on 0 from the start and raise it at the right spot.
All seems to work fine except a disturbing glitchy noise that appears during playback and if I bounce the track.
To be noted, if start playback closer to the event it doesn't happen, whenever I go back more than 2-3" it starts happening.

Thanks for any help

Hi Peter,

yes wet/dry mix (it's called mix in the parameters), here' a screenshot of what it looks like, playing anywhere before where the playhead is in the picture will result in the noise. I'm using Waves H-delay.

Thanks and best

Quick shot:
Disable the H-Delay by automation and enable it in "the safe zone".

If this does not help, you may be forced to use a bus instead of dealing with the wet/dry mix. Or use another delay.

But I am a bit surprised that a Waves delay is suspected to make noise while automating the mix. Is mix the only parameter you automate, or do you probably set the delay time via automation? Most delays hate that. But mix is a common parameter to automate and there is no reason for glitches or zipper noise etc. I cannot test it, don't have Waves plugins.

Hi Peter,
I'm sorry I don't know what it means to enable the delay in "the safe zone" and browsing for it didn't help me much..
what do you mean?
I'm automating only the mix btw.
Thanks and best

Sorry for sloppy speech.

You said, the automation works if you start the playback shortly before the mix parameter gets turned up. This is what I called the safe zone.

As a workaround you could try to make a new automation lane and bypass the delay plugin at the beginning. Shortly before the mix parameter gets enabled on the other automation lane, activate the plugin. After you turned the mix parameter down again, bypass the plugin again.

This may work, but I am not sure. A mix knob in a delay should never make any noise. There is a good chance that the problem lies somewhere else. Mhm ... what does your CPU meter in the transport area say, is it very high? Then your audio buffer may be too low.
