Backup problem

I back up to a Seagate 320 portable drive. Lately, though, I get this message when a project is about 75% copied:

"The operation cannot be completed because an item with the name '.DS_Store' already exists."

Any clue as to what this means? Must I initialize the drive and start over?

And to the mods--yeah, not exactly a Logic-specific question, but I came up snake eyes when I went to the Apple support pages. Thought it couldn't hurt to ask here.

Logic 8.02, 10.5.8, MacBook 2.0

How are you backing up? This message may appear if you are just trying to copy a bunch of folders, subvfolders etc. from partition to partition. If that is the case, you should consider using "real" backup software such as time machine, CCC, super duper etc.

THis question is just fine in the Mac OS area🙂

kind regards

Mark

For a one-off drag n' drop backup, you can use a utility like Cocktail to delete the invisible .DS_Store file from the folder you wish to copy/backup.

With the modern Mac OS, drag n' drop copy requires a command line. Go figure.
