Can someone please get me started using an external drive?

I have an external drive and don't know what I am doing. I read that I simply go to the audio menu and choose "set audio record path" from here set your recording path to be somewhere on your external drive. I couldn't find it. I'm using logic express. Could there be a difference?

I am also having trouble saving projects to this external drive. Could someone please either direct me to where I can read about this in the manual (the one in the help) or at least get me started with: how to use the external drive from the get go. I am not having much luck at this.

Thanks

Do you currently have any data on the drive or is brand new? If it has data please move to your internal drive before you do this next step

first off: you have to make sure the drive is correctly formatted. If it was already done by you or someone who knows what they are doing, don't bother, your disc is likely already fine

If not, follow these steps to format your drive to mac OSX Journaled.

Once this has been completed, open your new drive, and create a new folder on it called "Logic Songs". This will be the place all your songs end up... then you can easily back them up from one nicely organized place when you do (after every session, right ;-)

Next, open Logic, select new, and either use a template or start with a blank session. Logic will ask you to name the file. Before you do that, in the dialog box (where you should be) select the new drive from the list of drives on the left hand side of the interface, then select your new "Logic Songs" folder, and open it.

Now, save your song with it's new title... I use the date and the basic vibe or idea type when I start a new song. Then I'll rename it later.

That should get you up and running with a new drive and Logic.

Okay thanks. I think I'm getting it, but what about existing projects. How do I get them to the external and continue to work on them from the external drive?
