Logic Pro Catalina & Old Project Opening Crashes

Hello,
I have a new Macbook 16", which shipped with Catalina. Now, when I open big projects especially, Logic might crash 3 out of 4 times before it finally opens the project. The error message is simply "Logic Pro crashed when using the ____ plugin." The plugins change each time, some are more common than others, but it is definitely not a single plugin triggering the problem. I find it peculiar that Logic eventually does open it after enough tries, and runs with no problems after that.

I haven't been able to find records of this exact issue elsewhere. Do you have any clues to how I can troubleshoot this or fix the problem?

Thanks in advance. I am still using Logic 10.4.1

It may be the case that in the development of Catalina, Apple made some changes to the AU spec, which may cause problems with some audio units. See if you can identify which ones are mentioned in these crashes. Check with the audio unit developers if there are updates available.

If would also make sense to update Logic - zip or otherwise copy your current version before updating, so you can revert back to it if necessary.
You mention it happening with big projects - is it possible that you are running into memory issues?

kind regards

Mark
