Logic Pro 9 Changing Drum kit voice?

Logician
I have opened a .mid file containing the Pop Kit GM kit all the tracks are separate. I'm wondering if once in Logic 9, I can change the individual drum instruments. Kick etc. And where would I find these voices if indeed you can do what I'm hoping you can. Single voice like acoustic drums> Kick if there is something like that I have all the jam packs and everything that came with Logic 9.
Can this be done? Thanks

I'm guessing that all of these MIDI tracks are referencing one instance of the EXS 24. (Quick way to find out: Look at your mixer: One instance? Or a separate instance for each drum voice?)

If it's one instance, then why not try loading different drum kits into the EXS 24 by selecting them in the Library? You may find sounds you like better than the GB PoP kit.

You could also swap out the EXS 24 with Ultrabeat. The advantage of using UB is that it's easier to set up multi-outputs for discrete processing of the kick, snare, toms, etc.

Another option would be to insert a separate instance of the EXS 24 for your main sounds: one for kick, another for snare, and toms. You'd create 3 new SI tracks, load the EXS 24, each with a separate drum sound (see below), then reassign the existing kick, snare, and tom tracks to the separate EXS 24 instruments.

Your Factory sounds for the EXS24 should include a Drums & Percussion folder in the Library. This folder includes a Single Drums folder. You can load just a kick instrument (a bunch to choose from), same with snare and tom. This approach lets you to process each sound separately as well.

I don't understand this part of your answer.

Could you explain in a bit more detail? Please Thank you.

In the attachment, all MIDI regions play through a single instance of the Studio Tight Kit. The separate kick, snare, and toms tracks are below, each loaded with a separate instance of the EXS 24 playing a different single drum instrument. (If using hi, middle, and low toms, you can create a separate new SI tracks for each tom, or copy and paste samples to create one ESX 24 instrument.)

You can now drag the kick MIDI region to the new Kick track, same with snare and toms. The now unused tracks from the original MIDI file can now be deleted or hidden.

Sorry for any confusion.
Software Instrument. (EXS24, ES2, etc)

The bigger issue is do you understand the procedure I outlined?

No to be honest I don't . I have loaded the .mid file it opens as the Garage band GM drum kit "Pop Kit" but all the drum instruments are on separate tracks. Now what I would like to do is where the kick drum is on it's track I'd like to change the voice from the kick drum from the Pop Kit to another kick drum instrument ( if I can find one from the library) See attachment. But I'm not sure how I get the new voice onto that track to use the beats(notes)(pitch)? The Bass drum is using note"C1" in that track. I'm sorry if my question is not very clear. And thank you for sticking with me on this.
Thanks

Maybe this will help.
Open an Empty Logic project, load the MIDI drum file. In your initial screen shot, you had 12 drum tracks.

The question is how many instances of the EXS 24 are in your Mixer?

what I would like to do is where the kick drum is on it's track I'd like to change the voice from the kick drum from the Pop Kit to another kick drum instrument

Step number 1: Load up some new software instruments tracks. Instantiate the EXS 24. Load in some kick drum patches until you find some suitable options you want to try.

But I'm not sure how I get the new voice onto that track to use the beats(notes)(pitch)?

Step number 2: Drag the region onto the new software instrument track containing your alternate kick drum samples.

The Bass drum is using note"C1" in that track.

Step number 3: If the new kick drum samples on the new software instrument track(s) are not mapped to C1, the easiest way to deal with this is to transpose the MIDI region in the Arrange Window. There are several ways and Editors to do this.

Since the drums are already split into their own regions, the region in question contains only kick drum notes (on C1). The simplest way to transpose IMHO would be to select the region and transpose via the Region Parameter Box's transpose parameter in the upper left corner of the Arrange Window.

Tip: If you can load up an EXS24 instruments that have many different kick drum samples mapped across the keyboard, you can easily audition them in context by incrementing/decrementing the Region Parameter Box's transpose parameter while the arrangement is playing.

These are all points I mentioned above. But no doubt are presented by more eloquently by a master.

The point of asking about how many instances of the EXS 24 in the mixer has to do with understanding the relationship between onscreen number of tracks in the arrange playing through one instrument. I think this is causing the thread starter some confusion.

Many tracks can play through one instrument. Or many tracks can play through their own individual instrument (resulting in many instances of say the EXS 24 in the mixer).

This can be confusing. But taking time to understand how all of this works will help the user to successfully choose voices and route sounds for discrete processing.

Logic is not always logical. But it is if the user understands its quirks.

Well thank you that did not take very long.
Did not have to transpose or open a new track. Just change to EXS 24 (this is great never used it before.) and pick single drums.
Again thank you for sticking with me on this and I apologize for my slowness in learning. I appreciate your patience.
PS. I would like more single drum voices I have a bunch of drum .aiff and .wav can they be used in EXS 24?
