Logic Pro 9 changing only the pitch of existing MIDI-notes

Hi everybody,

I would like to change the pitches of a sequence of MIDI-notes in a region
by subsequently playing a note on my external MIDI-keyboard.

Does someone know if this is possible and if so, how it is done ?

Thanks.

Not sure I understand. Why not just select the notes and change the pitches in score or piano roll. Or if it's a total transposition of the sequence, do this in the region parameter box.

Open up one of your midi editors, like the piano roll for example, and click (or is it double click?) on the MIDI in button in the toolbar on the upper left of the local window. Then select the note you want to alter, play the corrected note you want on your MIDI keyboard, and the selected note will jump to that pitch.

an explanation

Hi Pete,

an explanation :

Say my sequence contains the melody of Yellow Submarine.

Now I want to replace the pitches of Yellow Submarine by the
pitches of Yesterday (also Beatles).

It could happen like this :

1. I select the first note of the Yellow Submarine melody.

2. now I play (on my external MIDI-keyboard) the Yesterday-notes.

With each subsequent key I play (on my external MIDI-keyboard), the selected note
in the Yellow Submarine melody is changed in pitch, and the next note in the Yellow Submarine melody is selected.

So I end-up with the pitches of Yesterday combined with the rhythm of Yellow Submarine.

insertion, no jump

Hi Eli,

I followed your instructions.

This is what happened :

1. The note I played on my external MIDI-keyboard is inserted as a new note
at the playhead-position.

2. The note I selected became deselected.

I tried it myself and found the behavior to be inconsistent. I think it's buggy in the current version. Try single clicking on the MIDI IN button. If that doesn't work, try double clicking on it. But it _does_ work the way it is supposed to eventually - which is changing the pitch of the selected note.

one for the wish-list

Thanks Eli,

some random clicking on the MIDI IN-button does the job.

It would be nice if :

after changing the pitch of the selected note, the selection would automatically jump to the next note.

I'll put that one on the wish-list.

Thanks again.
