Logic Pro 9 controller assignments question

Hi All

Enjoy the forum - first timer! Just learning L9 (got manual and DN's book) and have a mystery: I have successfully opened a soft-synth like EFM-1 and used CMD-L to open the controller assignments window, wiggled my external controller, and assigned it to a knob on EFM-1. I've done something somewhere to make that impossible. Now, when I open CMD-L, the window won't accept anything. In fact, when I hit the Learn Mode button it flashes the "normal" screen with the panels I've seen before but just flashes... nothing in the expert window. No zones, no nuthin'. Reset Prefs, opened a new project, searched the manual (oddly nothing about controller assignments!) - lost!

Hoping someone can help.

Quit Logic

In the Finder, go to 'user':Library😛references
Locate com.apple.logicpro.cs
move this file to the desktop

Restart Logic


Fixed?

Thanks for the advice!

Restarting the program fixed it this time around... as I read the forums about L9, I'm beginning to worry a bit about the many recommendations to scrap the prefs file. I've spent 15 or so years working personally with Digital Performer (which has its good and bad points too) and am transitioning to Logic because my university is moving away from Pro Tools, the program I've been teaching.

Do you find L9 to be stable? All the strangeness I've encountered so far I've rung up to inexperience.

The file in question contains only the controller assignments, the suffix .cs stands for "Control Surface". Nothing to worry about, unless you have a lot of custom assignments. They are gone after you removed the file.

If you have custom assignments, it is a good idea to store a copy of this file somewhere and put it back in place when you encounter a problem.
