Converting pro-53/prophet V presets

Hi, not entirely sure this is the right forum for this, but here goes anyway...

I'm having a couple of issues with software prophets. I'm using Arturia Prophet V on a Mac myself (with Logic 8, mostly), and collaborate with a couple of NI Pro-53 users.

Now these guys aren't too tech-minded, so it's a bit of an uphill struggle.

I have two main problems. One, I would like to be able to convert presets between the two applications. Two, I'm trying to convince one of them to move from PC+Cubase to Mac+Logic (and thus the Arturia synth, since there doesn't seem to be a NI one for Snow Leopard) and need to make sure that he won't loose all his presets in the process.

Does anyone know of a converter for this? - Or, if none exists, is there any way to access save information for both synths so that I can write a converter myself?

I don't know a patch converter for Pro-53 to Prophet V. But do you really need this? The Pro-53 build 3.0.5.001 is running perfectly fine here with Logic Pro 9.1 on Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Even when using Logic in 64 bit, and running the Pro-53 in the 32 bit AU Bridge. I also checked the stand alone Pro-53 with 10.6.2, works without problems. The Pro-53 is also Universal Binary, so you can use it on PPC as well.

Btw.: I'm using the Pro-53 single plug-in version, not the Komplete bundle. You probably need to download the most current Pro-53 installer from NIs web site. The Pro-53 is not contained in Komplete 6 any more, and Komplete 5 won't install on Snow Leopard. So no chance to install from Komplete 5 DVD and update via NI Service Center application.

Well, the converter idea was also to handle one collaborator running on PC, with Logic 5.5. Would have helped a lot if we could use prophet-sounds the other has created.

That at least is good news. Thing is though, I've seen elsewhere that NI has discontinued the Pro-53 - And, though I've seen it in stores, I can't find it on the NI site. So I'm a bit hesitant to cough up a couple of hundred for the instrument (one I more or less already have) if it isn't supported properly. I'm even more reluctant to recommend my friend to do it. I suppose there might be a way for him to upgrade his current synth, since it's a combined MacOS/PC app - but I don't really see how such an upgrade could jump from MacOS to a new system without transferring it from one machine to another, which is always a bit tricky and not easier with copy-protected software. Unless NI has some hardcopy upgrade alternative of course...

Stupid question: Can you each bounce your Prophet tracks down and share them as rendered tracks for collaboration?

IMHO: These two synths do not sound the same. I like the Pro-53 for it's harsher edge. The Arturia version is warmer and more authentic sounding, which isn't necessarily better to my ears. I think they are both good for different reasons.

Tanks for the link! - A lot cheaper than at my local store. I'll probably try that route instead (would save me all this converting hassle). Now I only have to see if they ship all the way over here to Sweden...

This how we mostly do it now. However, transferring complete project files works quite well from 5.5 to 8, so the more we can use this option the better. The plugins are obviously a major stumbling stone there though.

I can appreciate wanting a bit of an edge to the sound. I usually go the insert route for this today (that ol' flanger sees a lot of action).

A quick update on this: NI offers a generic installer patch for Leopard and Snow Leopard (last entry in the list of utilities):
https://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=freeupdates#Utilities

With this patch and the original Komplete 5 DVD set I was able to install Komplete 5 on OS 10.6.2 from scratch. Just download the installer patch (you can do this without log in), start the installer patch, insert the first Komplete 5 DVD and guide the installer patch to the Komplete 5 installer on the DVD. Be aware that patching the installer can take a while, depending on the computer app. 5-10 minutes. The patched installer will take app. 2GB on the hard disk, so be sure you have enough space left. After install you may delete the patched installer (or burn it on DVD for later use).
