Logic Pro 9 Data Transfer from another program

I am trying to transfer midi files into Logic from an antiquated program but rather than every track being recorded into Logic separately, everything is recording onto the same track. Each track in Logic has been assigned to a different Midi channel, (as has the source) but that hasn't worked. I'm a bit of a novice so can't navigate my way through this. Any help would be appreciated.

This has to do with how you saved/exported your file from the source program. There are two types of Standard MIDI Files. Type 0 merges everything onto one track (your likely problem here). Type 1 maintains track assignments.

You can still work with type 0 if you assign an unique MIDI channel to each part before exporting. You can then separate out by channel in Logic.

Thanks for the advice, Doug. Every track is assigned to a unique midi channel, from the source to the destination. No matter what, the tracks only record onto whichever track is highlighted in Logic. Frustrating.

If you have imported an SMF file follow the rule which was already explained above. If you want to record live Choose File > Project Settings > Recording, and select the "Auto demix by channel if multitrack recording" option. This will put Logic into Multiplayer/Live mode so Logic will channelize the incoming midi. You assign the midi tracks to different midi channel in the arrange and arm all the tracks you want to monitor or record. Hit the Record button in the Transport and record the incoming midi. During recording all incoming data will be recorded on the selected track but after you hit stop the singe region will be auto demixed to the proper track regarding the channelization.
