Logic Pro 9 DAW control Tascam 428

Hi all, I am new to not only this site but also to the whole logic scene, been in the music industry for over a quarter century (ugh) but new to the digital age. I am using logic 9 with a tascam 428, I was wondering if anyone else uses this set up and if so, are there any secrets to the aux controls? Thanks![MP3]🙂[/MP3]

I have used this deck before and I'm confused as to how you are attempting to use this.

the tascam is a stand alone recorder that can't be used as an audio interface, and Logic is a digital "tape" deck that requires an interface to get audio in and out of it.

that said, how exactly are you trying to use these as a single system, or are you wanting to know about how the tascam itself works ( in which case there would most likely be an answer on a different forum than this one).

Just wondering...

No the US-428 is a DAW controller for logic, sonar, etc and actually comes with stienberg i believe so I know what I am talking about and this is a forum to talk about basic things in regards to Logic, is it not? I am asking specifically about the tascams aux controls as I have not found out where they work in the logic arrange space...

Hey , no offense meant. the thing looks exactly like one of the tascam HD recorders, and if you go to the tascam site there is no info or pictures...

You are correct, this would be one of the possible places, doesn't tascam have any forums as well?

Anyways, good luck finding out what it is you are looking for.

BTW did you try to look thought the "Control Surfaces Support" manual that is found in the help menu in Logic?

It goes through things a bit, but to be honest, I have an 1884, and I have found most of the information in any of these documents to be of very little help at all.

Thanks for the help and no offense meant or taken! haaha, I am looking into getting a 1884 or 1082, it all depends on price though. I have my system running through my macbook, dont like that so I went and got a G5 with a dual core 2.3 and 360 gig 4gRAM blablabla i hope that investment gets the system moving a little quicker!

Hi Willwham1:

I've never used the US428 but a quick search turned up these links, which may or may not shed some light on it:

Thanks, i dont have any real issues, just need input on these aux controls, like George stated, the control surface manuals dont tell one much

Just so I am clear, we are talking about the US-428?
I use one, I'm really pressed for time right now but I'll post more information this evening.
It works quite well with Logic 9 and Mac OS 10.6,

I am I have the 428 but want to upgrade to either a FW 1884 1082 or go to a mackie...On the us 428 what exactly do the aux 1-4 control? I cannot get anything to be controlled through these command buttons. Thanks

Hi Willwham1.
I use the four of them to control the sends, select your track and the sends are changed by useing the Alpha wheel. Turn off the Auxiliary button and the Alpha wheel is back to use for scrubbing. You can only control the first four sends from top to bottom in either the inspector panel (on the left) or which ever fader is selected in the Mixer pane.
I haven't bothered with mapping the Assign buttons to specific plug-ins (turn on/off).
All in all it is a nice piece of gear.

I want the 1884

Are you aware the FW-1884 has gigantic dimensions compared to the US-428? It will take a considerable amount of space on your desktop. The feature set is nice, but it's one of the biggest DAW controller/audio interface units ever built. I would suggest to see the FW-1884 in person before buying it.

Best...
