Logic Pro 9 Delay on vocal track

If anyone has an idea. I have all my rhythm section tracks done and ready to master. I'm having major problems trying to lay down the lead vocal track. I can't get rid of the delay. I've tried to not allow software monitoring and I've gone into the plug ins and bypassed all delay, reverb etc....When I record the vocal it feels like its recording way far back on the beat and the delay throws the timing off. Does anyone know how I can get the track in better sync and lose the delay?

How were the rhythm tracks done? In the box or recorded at once? If you recorded them one by one, didn't you have the problem there also?

First, as usual, restart the Mac if you haven't already, it may be a system issue. If the problem is still here:
Is plugin delay compensation turned on?
Did you check the recording delay of your interface?

What model/speed/memory computer, what model interface, which version of Logic, which OS? Some interfaces allow for hardware monitoring. Are you trying to record into a soundcard?

Do you have Ad Limiter, or any other heavy latency inducing plug ins like that on the stereo output? Or anywhere in your signal chain for that matter?

But he said that he tried without software monitoring. Maybe we should clarify this:

Andy, do you mean that you monitored outside of the computer and the wrong timing happens after recording, when you play the song?

Or is there such a bad delay while recording that it cannot be done properly?

Have you experimented to see if the Recording delay needs adjusting.

Preferences> Audio >Devices

I test this from time to time by playing a click track and recording it to see if it matches up.

(Assuming your rhythm tracks don't have this issue, e.g. they are Apple loops and/or MIDI or imported from something else or recorded with a different interface)

Wow, you guys are amazing...what replies. Let me start at the beginning. I have Mac OSX 10.6.4, 2x2.8 GHZ Quad Core Intel Xeon, 2GB 800 MHZ DDR2 FB-DIMM, Logic 9.1.1 64 bit with a 24 bit/96k firewire recording interface Presonus
As best I can remember since I can't see the replies....totally new to blogs and users groups.
I took off all the plug ins, no limiter and should be no effects. Peter.....it's while recording. I'm trying to sing the lead vocal and I only put one phone on my ear. The delay drives me crazy and that seemed to help but it didn't really. As i'm singing, the vocal is behind the rhythm track. I'm going to try to preferences, audio devices and try to see if a click track matches the beat. I didn't think there were any effects on the pre sonus and I haven't had this difficulty before.
I'm still new and learning the software even though I have 3 manuals and the help of macprovideo.com which has been awesome. So bear with me....one of the replies was so far over my head, I could hear a big uhoh! fly by. I'll keep checking replies and following all the sage advice....I appreciate the collective wisdom..

ok that was it....plug in delay compensation. I have to look that up...found page 849 🙂 oh boy!

I recorded all the tracks. I played guitar, bass , piano and only used a drum loop

Good news.

However, you may rethink your monitoring method. Many audio interfaces allow "direct monitoring". This means, your mic signal enters the interface, gets splitted and immediately routed to the headphones. It does not go through the computer, which is obviously faster. For that you would turn software monitoring off.
