Logic Pro 9 delete individual unwanted jam pack loops?

Hi peeps.

I just wanted to ask if anyone knew if you can delete certain unwanted loops from the Jam Pack package that comes with pro 9? I only have my macbook about 2 months now but on purchase opted for the 256 flash drive instead of the 500 or more standard drive.

This of course means keeping my new sexy machine as lean as possible and erasing loops I will simply never use! Is this possible? i was going through many of them last night and while there are many great usable loops some are just taking up space and eventually I just want a library of stuff I love and know well rather than sifting through loads of 'clutter' to get to my favourites?

thanks for your time.

The simple answer is yes.

The more realistic and complex answer is yes, but it's gonna be a bit more complex because you will have to find them, delete the ones you don't want, and then reindex them. Before you do the reindexing, you have to be 100% sure you locate and delete any current indexes, or you will see doubles of the ones you are keeping, plus the ones you deleted will still show up, but in name only.

Google for the exact instructions: removing and reindexing apple loops in OSX

ok I will look that up , sounds like a bit of a mission this re-indexing, have you done it yourself before? do you mean whatever ones I erase ( which I am sure will be quite a bit of them) I will have to also reorder (tidy up/ re organise) whats left behind?
Are there dangers of messing up locations and search methods of the loops I am keeping ? I don't want to start creating problems with the program and causing a bigger issue? How big a job is this? I am not much of a programer?

sorry man for all the q's , but appreciate your feedback.

thanks

Yes, by touching the factory content, it will probably be replaced with the next update. If you renamed/cleanup/etc you might end up with duplicated content.

My suggestion is: don't touch the factory content! This is a BIG source of trouble - sounds like a good idea _now_, but in a year or whatever, once you forgot about it, it WILL bite you!

I find that to do editing of my Apple Loops library, and cutting out the "dead wood" can be a challenge because of the fact that things end up in so many places, and if you miss one set of index files, you can be in big trouble.

That said, if one didn't know not to install the extra fx and music loop stuff (which is pretty big) it makes sense to spend the time to delete them and open up the 15 or so GB if one is going for something like an SSD.

I am sure there are detailed instructions about how to do this on the internet, but if you are unsure of your skills as a tech, just use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner on your drive to make a backup (you will need a second hard drive with the same amount of space as your main drive to do this), then take a shot at trying this. That way if you mess something up, you can revert back.

In fact, anyone should have a main system back up once they have installed their main system and apps in order to be covered if their system drive blows up (and I have seen drives suddenly stop working for no apparent reason).

Either way, good luck.

ok much appreciated, I did have a fear it may be a bit of mission, I was hoping for a simple 'delete' option but I guess nothing doing!
maybe one for apple to think about later on further editions as I am sure customising our set ups and tailor making them to suit exactly what we want and getting rid of the rest of 'dead wood' easily would be ideal!

I will check out those links to, thanks guys.
