Logic Pro 9 editing volumes

I tried to follow the section on Flextime editing and couldn't get it to work for me. But I did find a tempo list and have been able to use that for editing.

What is the advantage of these mysterious Flextime markers over the other method?

The flex time markers can actually stretch and/or compress audio. The tempo list just puts tempo events into the timeline.
