Focusrite Saffire pro 40 help

Hi,

I'm new here, so if this thread is misplaced, please let me know and I'll move it accordingly.

Background: I have several years amateur experience in the analogue recording realm and have tinkered a little with protools. I recently got a home Logic unit with an early 2009 imac - it's been working a blast.

I recently got a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interface to use with Logic. I have just been trying to install it with no luck at all. I have followed the 5 step installation guide, and when I get to the final step:

"select Load from Hardware to load a setup where all analogue inputs and computer outputs are routed to monitor speakers and headphones 1 and 2"

and I get:

"Saffire PRO 40 Control Error
Unable to load Snapshot from the device"

I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, doing steps in a different order, trying with the interface on and off, hooked up and not, with the site updates installed and not, and I always get the same error.

I have looked round the net, and some folks seem to have had this trouble in Spain and Germany (but the google translation just made my confusion worse). There's no English info.

So my question is, is anyone using a Saffire with Logic, have you come across the same problems, and can you help me out at all?

Thanks.

Hi,

I've been using a Pro40 since last January and I have had no problems at all...

I don't really recognize that description above, but to me that tells me how to reload a standalone configuration previously saved to the units memory. This has nothing to do with how it's used with a DAW, but rather how You can use it as a standalone pre-amp.

Either You are reading this in a chapter describing this (new) standalone fuctionallity, or the manual have mixed it up with the small button, called "Routing Preset...", in the middle section just right of the "ff" logo.
Here You can load up some routing templates that You can get started with.
The user interface of the control panel is slightly confusing when You first start, I'll give You that!
It will enable You to do some cool things, but to start using it You don't have to worry too much yet, all the inputs and outputs should be seen by Logic anyway, and all this routing is just the icing on the cake.

Do You have any more questions, I'll try to help...

Good luck!
Janne

Thanks Janne,

Yeah the Saffire does register in Logic, and I get the impression it will take me a while to learn about all the functionality. I guess I was/am just a little worried that I am not doing something correctly at this stage which will lead to problems down the track.

I have also just noticed that the saffire pro 40 control page does not indicate that there is a firewire driver connected, but the saffire mixcontrol page does. I'm not sure if these are meant to be used in tandem, or if there is something I am missing here...

Thanks again for your help,

You have to realize that the Saffire MixControl software is a replacement for the earlier Pro 40 Control Panel, just delete it from Your system since it's not compatible with the newer Pro 40 firmware.

I got an activation code, but have nowhere been prompted to use it. Is there somewhere I need to go to do this, and something I am missing out on by not doing it?

And finally (I feel like a real novice asking all this, and am generally not too bad with technology) I can't get my novation bass station installation happening either. I have been thru the installation from disc and via download, and the software then is nowhere to be seen on my system!

The activation code You get is for the Focusrite Plug-in Suite, I have not installed it myself since I feel I have enough with similar plugins in Logic and some 3'rd party stuff. I guess You have to enter it either during the installation or at the first time You use one of the plugs.

The Bass Station should appear in the list of Software instruments on an instrument track in Logic, under AU Instruments->Novation->Bass Station.
