Logic Pro 9 Garage Band File mis-behaving

I imported a file from Garage Band. Connected my electronic piano with the midi in/out chord. Record-enabled a track using the Logic piano sound.
Here's what happens when I click 'record' .. the playhead jumps to the final bar, and the bar grid turns transparent red.
It's supposed to start the metronome and begin recording ...
what's happening?

Sounds like maybe you inadvertently have an autopunch zone enabled? To rule it out, control click on your transport bar and enable the autopunch button in order to have access to it. Then try toggling it on/off and see if it solves things.
