Logic Pro 9 Getting FCB1010/Logic Express 9 to work

I'm just getting started trying to work out how to get my Berhringer FCB1010 to control LE9. I've programmed the FCB to send a CC 16 on Bank 00 Preset 1 (at least I followed the instructions in the manual). I then tried to get LE to learn that command to record via the learn assignment section the key commands screen and I'm just getting "No assignment received". Is there anything I have to do to get LE9 to 'see' the FCB1010? Also is there any way I can check that the FCB1010 is transmitting Midi. I'm new to the FCB1010 and to Midi but I'm relatively adept technically so I think I can pick up any advice quite quickly. The FCB1010 is secondhand (this is the first time I've tried to use it) and very old firmware vers.1 so I'm going to change that for 2.5.1.e after Christmas. Also my Midi/USB adapter is new so I've never tried that before. Therefore I appreciate there may be issues outside of LE9.

Any help would be appreciated.

1) Install Midi Monitor. It shows you almost all MIDI that flows through your computer. It it's preferences, set it to display the values decimal, not by those MIDI names.

2) Check your MIDI connections with Midi Monitor.

3) Upgrade the FCB1010 to the latest firmware. For that you need a working MIDI connection.

4) Try and - if it works for you - buy iFCB, which is a FCB1010 software editor for the Mac. For programming you will need two MIDI cables, one to and one from the foot controller.

Thanks for the advice!

Hi Peter,
When you say: Upgrade the FCB1010 to the latest firmware - for that you'll need a working Midi connection. Are you saying it's possible to upgrade the Eprom from my computer? I thought I would have to buy a pre-programmed Eprom. I've been considering buying the FCB1010 Uno firmware. Any thoughts? I know one of the downsides is that the iFCB software doesn't work with it.

By the way, sorry for the delay in replying but the notification email got caught by my spam filter and I've only just spotted it.

Regards
Dave

The firmware must be stored in an EEPROM, you cannot burn an EPROM in its socket over a MIDI connection. Don't know if that is a different chip but think so. With a firmware upgrade you don't get a complete new program. Only parts get changed, improvements in communications etc.

The Uno is another product, it uses just the hardware of the FCB1010. There is no Mac Editor yet so far I know.

It seems that everybody calls everything firmware and I don't know the exact definition. But to get an Uno you have to buy an Uno or, if you are into electronics and have the equipment, buy an empty chip, download the image and burn the chip yourself.
