Logic Pro global volume automation control

I need to lower/raise each channels volume automation by the same % across all channel strips/tracks. And not by just using the Master fader. Each tracks automation should increase/decrease by the same increments.

I know how to do this with individual tracks but can this be done globally?

Thanx in advance for any info. Tonyk720

Thanx Peter for your quick reply.

Here's my situation: I need to lower every tracks automation volume down 2db over the entire 4 minute song and keep the same balance between each instrument. And not by each region(s) but thru out whole sequence.

Is there a way to just globally decrease the volume automation values at the very beginning and be done with it? I need a bit more headroom to add vocals, etc.

I hope I'm posing my question correctly. Thanx. And BTW I love Vienna. One of my favorite cities on the planet. Toured there many times over the years. Great music city and country.

Why not just adding a -2 dB Gain plugin to your summing bus or output strip?

  • Much easier, keeps the relationship and is further tweakable if needed.
  • Does not change the input of dynamics plugins or sends between channels, what the automation may do.

The Gain plug-in on the output channel is the easiest approach, especially for an existing project.

Another way to go about this, when starting a new project, is to create a "sub-mix" aux channel which then feeds the main Output channel strip. All other channel strips are routed to this sub-mix channel (if not routed to sub-mix channels for drum/percussion, bass, vocals, etc, all of which then flow into the main sub-mix channel... The new Summing Stacks make this a breeze).

You can create a new project template with these already in place.

Peter and CSeye, thank you both for your experienced input. These both work just fine. My problem started with importing projects from Logic 8 and Reason 4 to Logic X and Reason 7. They didn't transfer perfectly so some of my faders were completely maxed out. No room for increasing any tracks so I needed to lower all the faders and continue.

I also per chance found a way to lower/increase all tracks globally:
1. select(highlight) all tracks
2. go to A ( automation) on any track header and adjust the trim levels. All tracks volume automation were moved by the same increments. That left me with plenty of headroom and I didn't have to remix a very large and complicated Orchestra piece.

Thanx again for your insight and have a nice year. TK
