Logic Pro 9 HDSPe/Multiface stops playing audio after a while

Thought I'd post this to logic users first:

I'm working with a friend building a studio and we have the following setup that works and sounds great:

Mac Intel Quadcore, 2xHDSPe/2xMultiface, Logic 9

Unfortunately, after a certain time period Logic loses communication with the cards. Through RME's TotalMix software, I can see signal coming into the inputs but I'm not hearing anything through Logic's inputs. I can get the audio back by adjusting the audio buffer size preference, but that's a lame workaround.

I believe the energy saver control panel is set to never put anything to sleep, so I don't think that's the issue. IIRC it loses communication while Logic is open and hasn't been used for a while, i.e., I've never had the audio drop out while I was working on something.

Has anybody experienced this issue before?

Thanks for any help,

LH

Yes, I'm having a similar issue with a Multiface. It's like it's just getting overheated and bails out. After a couple of seconds the audio comes back but goes away again as you start playing back audio. I haven't researched it thoroughly lately because I don't use that rig much these days.

Hi Peter,
Are you able to hear some of the audio or does all of it dropout?
Funny that you mention this problem because I have the same setup and
experienced an inexplicable audio drop out this past week, but my
dropout was on one track. It would happen every other time I started
to play the track. It would stop playing at the same spot despite the
fact that there was no automation.

I restarted and the track played back correctly. I was nearing the end
of my mix and so I'm not able to say if it is a regular occurrence or
a one time problem.

I went to the RME update site and saw that there are new drivers out
but they're for Snow Leopard. Which OS are you using?

cheers,
Judith

In my case, *all* the audio drops out. AFAICT it never returns unless I perform the aforementioned workaround. As I mentioned before, we haven't had the audio drop out while we were playing back or recording (so far); it only seems to happen if logic has been idling for a while.

We're running 10.5.8, I believe.

I updated the firmware and the drivers for both PCIe cards to the latest ones available in late September. It seems to have solved most of the random audio shutoffs. The problem recurred once after the updates, but nothing beyond that so I'm assuming the issue was resolved.
