Logic Pro Help needed getting old settings into Logic X

Colin Shapiro

I've been using Logic for a very long time, so I have thousands of plugin settings that I've saved or downloaded over the years. Logic 9 used to automatically include everything from the Plugin Settings folder within the Logic 6 Series folder - all settings would appear in a submenu called Logic 6 series.

Now in Logic X, this doesn't happen.

My first thought is that I'd have to open the old folder for each plugin, then copy the settings into the new Plugin Settings folder, but I'd have to first make a new sub-folder in the new location called Old Settings (or whatever).

This could could take me until March 2015, or longer if I sleep and eat in between.

Are there any geniuses here that can suggest an Automator action that will do this?
Or any other ideas?

I've tried aliases but they don't work for the whole Old Plugin Settings folder - I'd have to make an alias for every plugin which again would take ages.

Any suggestions would be appreciated....

Try Option clicking the Settings pop up on the Channel Strip to see if it points to your Logic 6 settings .

All of my previous settings from L8 to present appears in the "User Channel Strips Settings" folder or within the plug-in.

@CSeye:
Sorry - I wasn't referring to Channel Strip settings, but rather to individual plugin settings.

I'm looking at the Library and the Option key has no effect there. Also no difference when clicking within the plugin itself.

Hey Colin,

Do you see your old plugin settings in the Finder when you look in the new Logic X location for user data?

Hi Eli,

I have 2 sets of old plugin settings - one for Logic 6 and earlier and one for everything since v7.

All the newer plugin settings are indeed in the new location, magically copied there and mirrored. (See my other topic: https://logic-users-group.com/forums/threads/bizarre-folder-behaviour.7653/)

The older settings are in this location:
/Applications/Logic 6 Series/Plug-In Settings

Logic 8 & 9 saw these and showed them in special submenu called [Logic 6 series].
Logic X ignores them (ie ignores this file path)

I think I may just have to sit down and copy everything, then at least they will (hopefully) be future proofed for a while...

Hmm, I've wasn't aware of an older folder structure for plug-in settings stored in the Applications folder. I'm surprised Logic recognized them this long! Sorry, I wish I had something more constructive to offer 😉

I would take that whole Logic 6 Plug-In Settings Folder and every folder I would rename it Logic 6 & put them in user/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plugin-Settings/whatever plugin folder those presets need to go in.

Colin, you can probably find some sort of batch renaming utility, so that you can append L6 either to the beginning or end of each of those folder names all at the same time in one step.

Then you just need to drag them one at a time to the new location. That cuts the hardest part of it down to one step. Just drag a " handful" at a time over each day, you'll be done in a week.

Colin if you don't find any tool fitting your need, I can write a unix script that will do it for you but i need a before / after specification and also you need (if it is not done already) to validate that it still reads l6 settings by manually importing one.

@ Fabulowsky:
Big thanks for the offer, but I've actually done it already!
I renamed folders and just copied them across manually. Took less time than I thought.

Much appreciated....
