:brkwl: I am trying to find out how to connect an Roland XP-10 Multitimbral synth to record into logic studio(logic Pro 9) . i have installed a midi interface driver and have a new i Mac 27 inch. i have seen this work on other iMacs. Logic Studio is working and the input from the keyboard is working but not from the synth. If anyone could help that would be great.
Does it need a plug-in?
Am i missing a settings preference?

A MIDI cable from the MIDI output of the synthesizer to the MIDI input of the MIDI interface. MIDI interface to the computer by USB or Firewire depending on the type of your interface. The "Computer Switch" on the back of the Roland XP-10 must be set to "MIDI".

You mention that you installed a MIDI interface driver. But for which MIDI interface? And what exactly isn't working? Is it that Logic is not receiving MIDI from the XP-10? Or is it not sending MIDI out to the correct channel/port on your MIDI interface?

Thanks Peter and Eli.
I downloaded Midimonitor.
When I turned the synth on, with the midi interface, MidiMonitor started to see events:
Pitchwheel / control /control /control /control. So it seems like MidiMonitor is receiving messages from the synth through the Midi interface.

Also, Logic Studio works in that I can type notes and play them from the computer keyboard.

So the main interface and cabling things seem AOK.
Maybe I just don't understand how to start a project with the external midi input?

But good news - I do see UM-1 (my synth channel I think) on project settings under midi synch preferences. this sounds useful.

I have now clicked 'Transmit MIDI clock to UM-1', 'Transmit MTC' and Transmit MMC' in the same panel.

Hey!@#!$$!! I can now hear my synth keyboard!!!!

Thanks a lot.
Paul
