Logic Pro 9 Highlighted track in arrange window arms record when playing.

When I highlight a track in the arrange window and hit play the track arms record. This seems to me dangerous - one accidental click on 'R' and your precious vocal is trashed. Can this feature be turned off? What is it for anyway?
