Logic Pro 9 How do I sync old audio with a new drumbeat?

Hello,

I've imported some .aiff files into the arrange window which are from a Yamaha AW4416 project. I want to do the drums again using Superior Drummer. all the aiff files are lined up in sync but I obviously need the drums to be.
How do I go about doing this?

I'm guessing:

I tried bpm counter to get a tempo. This altered from bass guitar to guitar ?????
Lining up the pre-recorded audio with the superior drummer was done by eye. Can't be right!
Is this a beat mapping thing????

Hellllllppppppp!!!!

A few questions: 1) was the original music recorded to a steady click and tempo? 2) are you sure you have turned off the previous tracks "Flex Time" option in Logic? 3) you don't have "Follow Tempo" checked in the inspector of the old audio tracks?

If you answer yes to 1 (you did record at a steady click or tempo) things are going to be much simpler. Just make sure you don't have flex time or follow tempo enabled and your audio shouldn't change pitch or time relative to itself or within Logic.

Then all you need to do is get Logic to play at the same tempo, and I usually just put Logic's click on, play the audio back and change the tempo until I find the correct one.

If you didn't record the first batch of tracks to a click... well, I don't envy you. There are a number of tutorials on Youtube that will cover creating a new tempo map. Once you have done this, you should be able to add and delete new tracks and have everything stay in sync.

Hope this helps and actually makes sense ;-)

Thanks George.....
Not to a click but it was recorded to a steady tempo - a rhythm drum track from a Roland RD-700! However, when I had quiet parts with no drums, I would manually turn the drums off for that bit (and record in the gap with the same drum part on a separate track to be muted later - to keep the tempo) and re-start it after the gap. It is slightly out on the re-start. Damn. Do i need to tempo match?

Is a tempo map the same as beat-mapping??

If you have a consistent tempo, just make it as close as you can in the tempo window, then manually adjust it until it lines up.

If you want to do anything extra, well that's your right. In this case, I think the solution is very simple.
