Hello
I have complete installs of both logic 8 and logic 9. I want to make them
as lean as possible and i don't really use any of the logic content (as far as I know).
I also never use Mainstage, Jam Packs or Garage Band. Does anyone know which files can be deteted and where they are located without effecting Logic's performance? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This is something you choose when the install starts.
Better not erasing after the install is completed because you won t do a clean erasing. Files are going to stay there and there and it would tak ages to find them. Also you might erase wrong files.

When you are installing, logic gives you the option to unselect what you do not want to install. At the very beginning.
It is a personalized install. I forgot the word used in logic for this but check it out.

I was looking to trim down logic and found out there that I had a whopping 12GB of sound files from Soundtrack pro that I did not use.
So I simply found the folder and got rid of it. It is always on the DVD if you ever want them back🙂

Hope it helps!

Be careful when deleting Garage Band, and Soundtrack Pro content.

Garage Band shares audio content with the iLife suite, especially iMovie and iDvd.

Soundtrack Pro shares content within what was the Final Cut Pro suite.

Be aware that the Jampack content also includes EXS instruments.

no problems here

As I said if there is a problem, you can still put all the files back where you got them.

Since I have removed that folder (it WAS only one folder) I have had no problem with logic or GarageBand.

But always be careful and back up 🙂

I'm just curious, why didn't you just deselect during the install process?

Content did change a little from Logic 8 to Logic 9. So back up your exs instruments, and user presets

Not really sure why you're sweating over a few GB, hard drives are cheap.

I currently have 500GB drive in my MBP, will be upgrading to at least 750GB, maybe 1TB later this year.

You can delete all of the Logic folders and re-install it. Choose carefully when you do the installation so don't end up with unwanted content.

/Library/Audio/Apple Loops
/Library/Application Support/Logic
/Library/Application Support/GarageBand (this is where the Jam Pack content is)

You will probably need to delete any package receipts, preferences too, as well as the Logic application from the apps folder.

I'm sure there must be a thorough guide somewhere here. Note that there are some diffs between Logic Studio 1 and 2 and you might need to remove everything from both installations before re-installing again.

Don't forget to export your key commands so that you don't lose that in the divorce. 🙂
