Logic Pro 8 How does logic treat idol VIs or plugins?

I'm pretty sure I know this one but wanted to clarify. If for instance you have a few vis loaded in your environment but aren't using them do they have a drain on the cpu? I think they have a little drain but not much. I would assume one is better of deleting extra vis or plugins if they're not being used, correct? As, this would free up some resources. I know that when you mute a track in the arrange window it frees up that tracks resources.

The general rule is that Logic only activates plug-ins during playback when regions are active on the track. So under normal circumstances, there will be no CPU drain for unused plug-ins.

However, keep in mind that if you are using sampler or ROMpler plug-ins, those may load samples into RAM, which will take up memory even if unused.

Also, if you have a VI track selected, that will put it into "Live mode," which means that the VI will then start taking up CPU (this is so that if you decide to start playing the selected instrument it's loaded up and ready to rock and roll).

Hope that helps,
Orren
