Logic Pro How to change "Drummer Track" tempo

HI. New to this forum. I've searched extensively for some information on how to add a Drummer Track to a project and have the Drummer Track match the tempo to a pre existing acoustic guitar audio track (Region). My searches have turned up nothing. I assume that I have to create a Drummer Track first, then adjust the tempo in the LCD, then replay the guitar part on a new track while listening to the Drums. That's the only way I can see how to do this. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Any comments, help appreciated!

It is easier to have a drummer track in place, or a Logic drum loop track, with tempo set as needed for the song before recording audio.

Questions
1. Was the preexisting acoustic region recorded in Logic?
2. Was the preexisting acoustic region recorded to a click track or without?

If the audio was recorded outside of Logic, you can select the region, go to Edit menu>Tempo>Detect tempo of selected region.
How well this works depends on if the guitar part starts on a downbeat, its length and how percussive it. Set the identfied tempo as Global so the drummer track will be in sync.

Thanks for the reply CSeye. The guitar track was not recorded in Logic. It was done in Digital Performer around 10 years ago. And not with a click (although I am a drummer and have very good time when I play guitar).
I'll try your suggestion and see what happens! I can always play a drum part in on a keyboard, it's just an experiment to see what works best without micing a drum kit up, and I wanted to see what "Drummer" can do too.

As there was no click, however good your timing is, I doubt there will be a constant enough tempo. But if there is you can try this:

  • Trim the audio region so that it is an exact number of bars (ie without any into pickup or end sustain).
  • Make that exact number of bars a cycle selection
  • Select the region
  • Press CTRL T
  • The tempo will adjust globally to the audio

If there are slight variances in tempo or beat placement, then use the mapping to create a tempo grid

Thank you Pete. I've starting playing drums to the guitar track by using a small USB keyboard, and now trying to edit stuff that's out of time. Lot's o fun! But may try to do what you suggested and try the Drummer track again. Thanks so much for responding. I love what this program can do, but am more familiar with Digital Performer (which I haven't touched in 10 years!), so I have a lot to learn and memorize for sure. Bottom line...I'm excited about recording music again after a very long hiatus!

I would seriously try the beat mapping. I won't give instructions here as the manual is quite good on that. It's very worth doing and doesn't take long - in your case as a drummer you will be able to add an accurate click track by tapping out a clcik, and the mapping will be easy.

Then adding Drummer or pads or whatever will be good.
