Logic Pro 9 How to eq left vs right?

So I'm curious how engineers are going about eqing the left versus the right on stereo tracks easily. Blue Cats plug-ins come in dual mono flavors, though they're not referred to in such terms... I'm hoping that when McDSP ships filterbank it will have the same topology as the digi versions for selecting right vs left.

I'm not sure if this will be regarded as easy, but one quite flexible way is to split the signal using two aux channel strips:

First of all, route the signal from your stereo channel strip to a bus, and have this feed into two aux channelö strips. Switch these two aux channel strips from from Mono or stereo to Left and Right resepctively. Pan them in order to maintain integrity of the stereo signal. You have now individual control of the left and right "halves" of the stereo signal and can apply EQ, compression or whatever to each as desired as desired. A screenshot should help illustrate this:

Hey Mark,

Couldn't you just duplicate the region onto an additional regular audio track, and then in the format field, set one to left only and the other to right only (like you did with the two auxes in your screenshot)? Wouldn't that do the trick?

I expect that would be fine as well, nice to have a choice of methods 🙂

The method I suggested is perhaps a little more flexible or less demanding on resources when it come to VIs, or splitting a grouped/bussed signal into two mono feeds.

Both good ideas, but not really contenders for the efficiency category : )

Some Plug-ins allow for separate l-r, just wish the logic ones would. I do miss that from pro tools.

Try setting the channel's FORMAT to "Surround". Most of Logic's plugs and 3rd part AUs will show up as Multi-Mono, a few show up as true surround. Choose a multi-mono plug and in the Configuration view, set L and R channels to different Groups. Now you can have different settings for L and R.

Unfortunately Logic used to allow setting the Surround Format to "Stereo", which is great - now you have to choose something like LCRS, and then just Bypass the extra channels in the plug-in's Configuration view. You also have to disable the extra speakers in the surround panner. (I wish "Stereo" would come back as a surround option).

I'm finding that what you say is true, but only on the master fader. On audio channels, the plug-ins still only come up as stereo. Same for aux channels.
