Logic Pro How to see only one staff in Main Window's Score view.

Apple instructions say: You can also move through display levels, to view a MIDI region, a track, multiple tracks in a folder, or all tracks in the project.

But I don’t see how it is done.

Sometimes I get one staff and sometimes many. I cannot figure out why.

there are many ways... but lets just start with one...

In the score editor.... ( let's ignore content link mode, filter selection and the Hierarchy/up level button for now).....

Double clicking on a staff - will move you down a level until you reach the region level. Just keep double clicking.
Double clicking a staff on the background (meaning off the staff) on the blank background, will move you up a level until you reach the all instruments level.

If it appears nothing happens - then your region level and instrument (track) level may look the same which is the case if you only have one region on a track. - this can confuse people especially at first..

I suggest you open a score window using cmd 5 and experiment from there as the window title heading tells you the project name and if you are at the region level will also show the project name : region "region name".... This will help you understand which display level you are at.... This is a complicated subject - one that I have been wanted to do a tutorial on for quite some time, but haven't gotten around to it.... - Just keep asking questions and glad to help....

There are only 4 ways to get positive confirmation what display level you are at (above is one way)... Display levels are an internal logic abstract, not to be confused with visual levels of what you see in the score editor ( for which most use the name incorrectly in an interchangeable way - they call the what you see on in the score the display level - and that is incorrect) . In logic ( if you don't use folders) there are only two display levels ( the project level and the region level) - The project level contains 3 visual levels ( all instruments, score set, and instruments) - then there is a region display level for which there is an associated region visual level.

So using the double clicking technique above ( again there are several other ways to - but this keeps it simple) you have

Display Level (internal logic level) Visual level ( what you see)

Project Level All Instruments
Project Level Score Set ( if the current staff is associated with a score set) - can be omitted
Project Level Instrument
Region Level Region

This can be verified in many ways - one way is to look at the title bar of the floating score window (cmd 5). As you navigate up/down the visually level defined above on the right - you will see the title bar window change in accordance with what is in the display level column up on the left.
