Logic Pro 9 I can't merge audio files for some reason

I can't merge audio files for some reason (solved)

This is in one particular project running at either 32 or 64 bit. I get a dialog box asking if I want to mix down the audio region in either mono or stereo. Really weird. I open up a different project and it works as normal. I haven't tried deleting prefs yet only because I think it's just in this project. It happens on any track I try it on. I've restarted the mac and tried the glue tool. I get the same message with the glue tool as well. I did a "save as" and am getting the same thing. I'll keep plugging along on this but thought maybe one of you logic wizards had an idea. I have had this happen before randomly but then it goes away pretty quickly.

I tried a few more things. I tried importing one of the audio tracks into another project and merging it there and it worked. I then deleted preferences and opened up the original funky file and tried merging with no luck. This particular project has a combination of aif and wav files. I went into the bin and just converted one file from aif to wave "for fun". I then went back into the arrange page and tried merging some other audio files and it worked! It's like I had to do some kind of audio jump start to get it to work correctly. weird.
