Logic Pro Impulse response what kind of file format?

Hi:
I downloaded Big Gee's Lexicon 480L impulse responses. They are.pst format. Anyone know what format space designer recognizes?

Thanks in advance.

Karen

Space Designer uses .SDIR files. (Native format)
.pst files are settings files that all Logic plugins use.

Is it perhaps possible that you downloaded the settings files but not the actual samples themselves?

Sample files can also be .wav files which Space Designer can import/use.

Thanks Colin. I went back into Logic 6 and found a "downloaded impulse" folder with IR's in .wav format. I copied them to my desktop. I've tried various locations in my root library to put them, but they're not showing up. I remember using them in Logic 6.

I read a post by Orren Merton where he said: "I believe that the only three locations that Logic is hardwired to remember IR locations from is the Apple-generated Impulse Response folders (in Library/Application Support/Logic and ~/Library/Application Support/Logic) and in the Project folders for your project if you have "Include assets" and copy Impulse Responses checked. It won't remember them from user locations, no matter where they are."

Do I need to restart Logic to have them show up?

What is the best way to install them?

I am looking for them in space designer by clicking on the small downward arrow next to IR Sample in a big circle on the left of SD.

Thanks a bunch,
Karen

Well, I kinda found a way to load them, but only one at a time, which takes forever. I needed to add library (root library) to the favorites in the finder window. Here's where I put them:
Library/application support/ Logic/Plug-In setting/Space designer.

If I can learn to load them all from the folder, that sure would save a lot of time.

Thanks,
Karen

I have this path for my Impulse Response files:
[your HD]/Users/[your home folder]/Library/Application Support/Logic/Impulse Resonses
Just copy or move the files there.
It's probably best to restart Logic afterwards.

They should work by calling up the settings in Space Designer.
The .pst files should be here:
[your HD]/Users/[your home folder]/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plu-In Settings/Space Designer

If that doesn't work, it's possible that the .pst settings files need re-linking, the same way that EXS24 files do.

There's a small app that will re-link folders of files for you, quickly and efficiently. Search the App Store for "Space Designer Manager' - it's well worth it.

Thanks so much Colin. I will check this out and report back.

Thanks again, Colin. I found I had the Lexicon files in .aiff format in addition to the .pst files. I used the .aiff ones, and I followed your path regarding where to store the IR's. I am able to load them into Space Designer, but only 1 at a time. Would the Space Designer Manager App allow me to load the whole folder?

Thanks.

Hi Karen,

Not sure what you mean by loading a whole folder.

The ideal way to load a new setting in Space Designer would be to click on the Setting menu at the top left of the plug-in window, where you get a drop-down menu of all the settings available. That's where you should see all of the .pst files you first mentioned.
Another way to do this is to click the Library button in Logic's Main Window where you'll see the same menus as the drop down menus.

If you don't see the settings from Big Gee's Lexicon 480L (I'd guess they'd be in their own folder), then the .pst files are in the wrong place and haven't been seen by Logic.

If the setting loads but there's no impulse response loaded, then the link between the .pst file and it's relevant sample is broken. That's where the Space Designer Manager App would work, to re-link and fix the broken .pst files.

The second way is to click the arrow at the right of [IR Sample] in the plug-in window's circular area. You'd choose [Load IR] and navigate to the sample folder. However, this only loads a new sample into the current settings in Space Designer and should only be used if you want to maintain the current settings with a new sample (IR), or if the samples don't have corresponding .pst (settings) files.

Hope this makes sense....

Cheers - Colin

Hi Colin: Wow. Thanks again. What I mean by "the whole folder" is all the IR's within the Lexicon 480L.

I will try again and report back.

I just wanted to say that I used Space Designer Manager to get a bunch of IRs into Space Designer and it worked great. Well worth the $.

Thanks Colin and Daveboy. I used one IR from the Lexicon folder. Now that the project is over and I have more time I will pursue this further. Thanks so much for your help.

I've downloaded the Samplicity Briscati IRs but they come as left and right channel wavs. I can import them into space designer via Space Designer's > Load IR but its only one channel. Anyone successfully got both Briscati channels into Logic 9 SD?
