Logic 8 Apogee Duet and MIDI

Hello,

My Apogee Duet crashes often when I use external MIDI devices. I am posting to Apogee but thought I'd see if anyone here knew about this. Thanks.
 
Mine would crash often too. Apogee techs were no help.. I would disconnect duet, and plug in, or/restart logic.. I got fed up and bought and RME device...
 
By-passing the Duet and running a midi cable from elsewhere seems to help. But then my Duet crashes just from having audio coming into it from time to time. I dunno. I was advised by pros in the music industry that the Duet was a good way to go for an affordable professional sound. I suppose it sounds good. But the whole midi implementation of Logic is meek. Some of us still want to use some hardware synths in the mix. Do you know how to sync a drum machine to Logic 8 without using the Duet? Thanks for responding.
