Audiogrocery is excited to announce the new Logic Articulation Maps PRO.
The Articulation Maps PRO (AM PRO) is designed to collect multiple MIDI messages and send them in a single, automated node to the Track Instrument. This allows the user to select and display articulations directly from the Main window without the need for Key Switches, Program and Control Changes embedded within Logic's editors. You can use "Single Lane" to automate the Articulation Maps whose nodes are shown as custom Map Names such as "Vn.Staccato", "Va.Sustain" etc. Each Map can send up to six articulation messages basically: Key Switch, Program Change and four Control Change messages via unique Map customized MIDI Channel (1-16). The Advanced Maps can send hundreds articulation messages per Map switching. The AM PRO Articulation Maps can be controlled externally via single Key Switch, Program Change or Control Change MIDI message as well as via Logic Controller Assignments.

The new AM PRO is a major update of the Logic X Toolkit PRO v2.0. This update is FREE for all existing clients who own the previous toolkit versions!

Very cool Ivan. I will probably write a column about it for MacPro Video.

As you may remember, I use Peter Schwartz's SkiSwitcher, an Environment based solution to change articulations by changing MIDI channels from the program buttons on my Kurzweil. and I love it. But your toolkit gives more visual feedback and more options and Peter's is no longer for sale to others (except by friendship) so kudos to you.

Thanks for the feedback! The A.G Toolkit Pro offers such Environment Tool as well by the way with intelligent On/Off function which remembers the last switched MIDI Channel. The Channel Switcher PRO MIDI FX offers much more extras as well incl, custom Articulation or Channel Names shown in the Automation. The MIDI Channel Switching is good and useful when your Instruments are loaded as separate patches on different MIDI Channels.
The AM PRO is something different and very powerful tool. Each Map can send multiple MIDI messages according to its Map assignments: Key Switch, Program Change, up to 4 CCs etc. The Advanced Maps can copy the Maps settings and send to other MIDI Channels or you can link that Map to other Maps. In theory the AM PRO can send hundreds Articulation (MIDI) messages per single Automation node. There are much more features which are well described in the documentation. The AM PRO documentation is Free for download so you can have a look at it.

First let me say that you have clearly created a very clever and useful addition to Logic Pro X. Congratulations!

However, after watching the videos and looking the manual (I was thinking of buying the Toolkit), I have to say I'm put off by the learning curve and complexity, plus the time that would be required to create all the maps I would need.

I use Vienna Instruments Pro and it would be most useful to have your Articulation tools at hand, but I can't imagine how much time it would take me to create maps for all of their complex instruments.

Have you ever considered creating custom maps for various products (like VI Pro) and then selling these at an additional price? Because you know your scripts so well, you could make them very quickly. I'd be happy to pay extra and just be able to download the maps I needed.

Just a suggestion.....

Colin, I am not Ivan, but from what I see of this it can be used very simply just in the Environment, the way I use Ski Switcher, or in a more complex manner that is tailor made for each library.. I don't think the learning curve necessarily has to be difficult, but hey, with all this technology there are learning curves that require an investment of time to get the best end result.

Jay, obviously all new things require some effort. I generally put a lot of energy into learning things properly - my friends find me to be "notorious" for reading manuals.

I'm just not sure if I want to dig into Logic's Scripting at this point, which is why I made my suggestion above to Ivan. There just seems to be less time to actually make music these days...

Understood. Just trying to make the point that it looks like you could use it very basically in a helpful fashion quickly and easily and then peel off the layers of the onion over time as the spirit moved you. Or not.

Hi Colin,

The AM-PRO does not require any script knowledge, because the "Articulation Maps" text sector is separated from the main CODE. You create Maps like you do in Cubase for example. AM-PRO offers lots of extras that's why it seems it is complicated. What you need is to have a look at Page 4 of the Manual (Articulation Maps) - everything is there or in the VIDEO 3 time:1.25 - 2.15.
It takes e few seconds to create a Map (same in Cubase).
For example the AM-PRO testers needed a few Email instructions to be able to create Maps (they are regular musicians, not programers). According to their feedback they say that AM-PRO is absolutely simple and easy to use. I guess some of them will post a comment here soon.

There are tons of new Instruments in our days which offer various Articulations powered by different KS, Program Change and CC assignments.
For example you can customize your Vienna in a different way than the others so the AM-PRO Maps will not match your custom Vienna Assignments.
Once you have your own Maps you will be happy to work - it is easy and friendly to see and edit a single Articulation line in the Logic Automation view.
The Articulation chasing is perfect by the way when you move back and forth thru the project (Logic can not chase the short regular MIDI Key Switches which is weird to work in the old standard way).

The AM-PRO comes with two additional RTF Map Documents which contain the Maps only (no Code inside, so you can create Maps, copy and paste the text into the Scripter Editor Maps sector). The people can create Maps using those documents and share them because there is no Code inside. I think this is better. What I can do is to send Emails to all users and ask them to share their Maps if they want and provide them to Audiogrocery. After that I can make a "Free Maps" download sector in the site so other users can download the shared Maps etc. More users, more Maps 🙂 .

Finally, the Maps creation difficulty level is like you fill a form to buy a Plane ticket on line (via Internet). It's a text table where you fill your wish.
