Logic Pro Logic Pro X is now out!!

I'm downloading as I type. Logic now comes with pitch correction, midi fx, a "live drummer" and many more new enhancements. You must be running OSX.8.4. I'm assuming it won't overwrite my L9 app but cloned by drive just in case.

There's going to be a *LOT* of talk here in the next few weeks!!

Looks like Logic X has a redesigned interface, a few new plugins, a free companion iPad app (at last!), Flex Pitch (looks Melodyne-ish), a new Drummer function, plus more.

No mention of an upgrade price (that I can see). $200 (1c change) from the App Store.

No upgrade price. It's booting up now and scanning my 400+ plugins. I'm going to attempt to mix using it today. I still have L9 so I'm not too worried.

Update: I am now downloading all the new additional content...23 gbs worth!! OK, so maybe I won't be using it this morning🙂

I see they added something to do proper track folder -- stacks. Probably saw my complaint about Folders last week. 🙂 How does that look?

You're not wrong...but I'm going to take issue with that anyway. 😉

In the old days, Logic was $499 (or more!) and you had a $199 upgrade. Since the Mac App Store doesn't really allow "upgrade pricing" easily, what Apple has done-rightly so, IMO-is they in effect give everyone the "upgrade" price.

So I'd agree that there is no upgrade anymore...but I think we all, in effect, are paying the "upgrade price."

Pretty cool, eh? :thmbup:

As Orren infers; this pricing is incredible. Never before in the history of mankind could so much DAW power be purchased for so little. It is absolutely incredible!

To put it in perspective, the recent "upgrade" price for the vanilla version of Pro Tools 11 is $299. And that's just to "upgrade"; to get 64 bit processing and off-line bounce! (well, maybe a couple of other things too)

$199 for the entire Logic X program is stunning. I was secretly worried that when they lowered the price and put it on the app store a year and a half ago, it was just to "blow out" Logic 9 before a new version came out, at which point they might bump it back up to more realistic prices. I'm happy to see I was wrong!

Yup. That's correct. No more 32 bit AU bridge. It had to end sometime.

You've got to give credit to Apple for hanging on to 32 bit plug-in support as long as they did!

I would add:

At this point, developers have had a ton of time to go 64-bit. The vast majority of plug-ins are 64-bit. If you have a specific plug-in that hasn't been updated to 64-bit, write the developer to ask what their timeline is. Every OS has moved on now.

If you're dealing with an abandoned plug-in, well, that's a bummer. But these days, there are so many great plug-ins (including the built-in Logic ones) that you have a lot of excellent options.

Having only tried it for a few hours I have to say I like what they have done... (I'm on vacation and only have my laptop with me.)

I've never really like Garageband, but I can see me growing used to the new scheme of working.
The new Drummer will be really cool for guys like me who make money doing music for commercials. It's easy to use, sounding good, and will help me reach my deadline without fiddling to much.

I really, really like the iPad-app. It is perhaps the best out there.

The new color scheme is looking really good, and I'm looking forward to see how it will work in a long session..

I'm going to use Track stacks all the time. I love this feature.

And I really like the new way to adjust velocity in the Controller segment in the Piano roll..

There are however a few interestings things...
There are very few new instruments and the old one now looks pretty dated compared to the new ones. They also look terrible on my retina MBP.
This leads me to believe there will be an update either with new graphics on the legacy instruments or maybe even some new instruments on it's way.. we'll see... That part doesn't seem totally finished.

Have to go back testing more... 🙂


Oh! And finally I can work with movies in 64-bit mode.. Maybe the single best thing for me!

Apple can afford it. I'm sure if a smaller company was selling it, it'd be quite a bit more.

Oh, and thank god for FCPXML import/export. WOO!

Anyone know if old Logic projects can be imported in Logic X? I kinda doubt it, but I thought I'd ask.

Yes they can. I am sure I read somewhere back to Logic V5

You can open projects created in Logic Pro 5 or later. Projects saved in Logic Pro X are not backward-compatible with earlier Logic Pro versions.
