Logic Pro X Logic Pro X is now out!!

I'm downloading as I type. Logic now comes with pitch correction, midi fx, a "live drummer" and many more new enhancements. You must be running OSX.8.4. I'm assuming it won't overwrite my L9 app but cloned by drive just in case.

I have the Logic on my Mac's internal drive and most of the other content on a second drive. (I use a third drive for audio content.) I was able to do this because Logic 9.1, which was the last version to come on dvds, allowed the user to determine where certain content would reside. Is this split-drive installation option available now that Logic is a download-only program? Or, if not, is there a workaround?

I only got Logic Pro 9 about 6 weeks ago and that cost me $200, I really think they should either have warned me a new version was about to be released or give a free or discounted update! What do you think my chances are?

Cheers

Wow, the price is really fantastic! I remember when I first bought into Logic (2.0) I had to pay around $1500 for the full package (Music store in Sweden, don't know how that competes internationally). That was in the early nineties and I had just had it using Cubase with its MIDI timing that lost the rhythmic reference if doing *anything*, like muting a few MIDI tracks during the laying down to 24-track tape when preparing for mixing. I remember the feeling of creative freedom getting into hard disc recording; Logic was kind of setting the standard then. Today I feel the same excitment when getting access to these new production tools... "AI aided performance tools" is indeed an exciting new DAW paradigm.

Great job to MVP & Steve H... I watched every quick tutorial those guys did on X... And I might just subscribe for real once I pull the trigger on X.

Dark backgrounds?

Hi guys,

Does anyone have any method for changing the backgrounds to the mixer and arrange. When I open my old Autoload (which has white backgrounds - far less contrast to the eyes) in X it defaults to black headache-inducing backgrounds. Can't find a way of changing this yet - mind you, I've only been using it for an hour......

Do you suppose its $199 per computer or if you have more than 1 you can install/upgrade them all for the one price?

Every mac that is hooked up to the same Apple ID. So you buy it for your Apple ID, and then you can install it on all that Apple ID's machines.

The option to change backgrounds seems to have gone.

I'm also finding everything very [[[DARK]]] - sadly that's the new fashion with pro apps these days.

Quick heads up to old Logic users:
I found that a whole lot of my EXS24 instruments from Logic 6 days didn't show up anymore in Logic X.

Seems that all Sampler Instruments (User) are now here:
Yourdrive/Users/yourname/Music/Audio Music Apps

I put an alias of my old Logic 6 Instruments into the Sampler Instruments folder, refreshed the Library and they're all back again.

Always some tweaking to do to get back to where you were....

That is a shame... I edit on Avid and for the last few years, that program also removed the ability to customize the look of the program which makes my experience slightly annoying every time I use it (which is every single day.) :(
Shouldn't the user be in charge of customizing their screen, ie; what he or she must stare at for x amount of hours a day, to the way they like it to be?
I find dark interface screens fatiguing on the eyes... That's a bit of a disappointment to me that you cannot adjust the colors...
I'll reserve judgment til after I work with it however.

"hooked up to the same Apple ID" provides a little bit of a wrong picture.

In order to download an application you have to "log in" to a valid Apple ID with a creadit card or a some sort of gift card balance. Please note that the Apple ID is only necessary when you want to download an app or later update an app that you have purchase with a specific Apple ID. Once the app is on your computer, there is no validation if you can use it or not and you can log out.

You can download different apps with different Apple IDs. For example, I have a personal Apple ID and one that I use for business that I share with co-workers.
The only trouble is that you have to log in and out for different updates. The App Store app is smart to remind you that you have updates available under a different account if you are not logged into that.

I went to the app store and read comments on people who upgraded to Mountain Lion, and there are a huge amount of complaints of computer slow downs and crashes.
Ignore it. ML is fine. Unless you've loaded up your Mac with piles of rubbish that wasn't written to work properly with OS X at all, have an old Mac that isn't designed to run new OS versions, or have a lot of old apps that need updating, everything will be good. I had a few bumps with Lion, but ML is the most stable OS I've ever used (other than pure Unix).

Looking at the surface, this is a not a bad update, but not the huge improvement I think many might have expected after such a long wait. Maybe enough to warrant a paid upgrade, but I don't think anyone is going to be dragging their other DAWs to the trash can just yet.

The smart controls are a very nice touch, and the drummer could be useful for some people, but most of the other changes are catch up, improvements to accessibility, layout and workflow. Some use of Redmatica code and VI articulation support are notable absences.

Maybe there are some big under the hood improvements? Has heard of any or noticed anything?

What I know is that you can go to the AppStore (or call Apple) and ask for a refund for version 9. They're usually doing that more or less easily (even if it might take a while...).

P.S.: No comments from me about LPX here. I guess you folks appreciate that.

Sascha! Being an old Logic dog whose been with them since the first version and a long time reader/poster on the original LUG (the email version) I came here just to read YOUR view. :D

I can't upgrade anyways as it would kill/cripple my workflow ATM.

Hey all,

Wanted to let you know about the new resources we've been working on for Logic Pro X which are already available!

1 x FREE Video Course: New Features

http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/

I have to say, this "free" into to Logic X is awesome, I really got allot out of it, and I look forward to taking advantage of my monthly membership, which I would highly recommend to any LUG users, both new and old.

Great site, fantastic tutorials (says the author of on of the first ever Logic 6 tutorials way back 10 years ago... wow, it's been that long now...).

Thanks for all your hard work over at Mac Pro Video!
