Logic Pro LogicX arpeggiator?

One function that has always annoyed me in Logic9 is that the arpeggiator function never worked in real time. It had a delayed reaction to the notes played on a midi keyboard so therefore was only useful for arpeggiating things after notes had been recorded.
Has this been fixed in logic X?

Logic Pro X includes a new feature: MIDI Plug-Ins. These are channel strip insert plug-ins that operate on MIDI data rather than audio data. And the Arpeggiator MIDI plug-in works in realtime.

The Environment Arpeggiator object still requires Logic to be in playback mode; it hasn't changed.

Thanks for letting me know. So the midi plug-in arp simply plug-in to the channel strip ahead of other processing effects? Like in other DAWS? Does this mean a third party midi arp plug would work in logic X?

LPX does not have an open format for 3rd party MIDI plug-ins, at least yet.

That's correct but LogicX offers a new open source midi plugin "Scripter" which gives the chance to the 3rd party developers to produce new midi plugins.
I have already announced my free "A.G Midi Channel Switcher". I guess Apple is "fishing" the scripters giving a chance to the 3rd party developers. At the same time Apple have limited the "Scripter" plugin to a simple UI so we can not create custom UI design etc. As a whole I guess Apply are trying to kick out the Logic Environment replacing it with the new MidiFX plugins - who knows...

:eeek: Geee!!! I hope not!
It would not be respectful to their long time pro supporters/users! So many people have devoted time and efforts in the Environment.
I am glad that they finally decided to implement some scripting cababilities and do hope they will keep developing further in that direction, although, definitely not at the expense or with the plan to dispose of the Environment! That would be a huge mistake and drawback!

I agree and I'm 200% for keeping the Environment healthy. If Apple had any interest of it they had to develop it in the last 10 years or to fix the bugs at least.
Here are a few prepositions for example:
1. Regarding my deep Environment researches a midi message can travel thru 398 environment cables after that it disappears. It's a serious limitation for the complex Environment tool developers, so it has to be fixed.
2. The Environment objects must support 14bit Fader massages so you can control the new Plugins which use Fader messages above #128.
3. The Channel Strip can not pass thru the midi events sent from some Software Instrument so you can route Midi from one Software Instrument to another or to the Sequencer like you can do in Cubase for example.
4. A "Host Listen" feature will be welcome for real-time objects like the Arppegiator, Touch Tracks etc so you can run them in "Stop" mode etc.
5. Custom UI images and Text Font & Size control for the existing Fader, Buttons etc will be welcome as well.

There lots of things which can be improved or fixed...
It's a pity that Apple do not give a damn about, which makes me thing that they will invest in the new Midi FX developments.

These new Midi FX aren't they just some Transform application modules that were already present in the Environment?

If you are talking about the Factory Midi FX presets some of them match a given Environment object (for example the Arpeggiator) or a given Environment setup. Both methods: the new Midi FX & the Environment are based on midi processing!

Let's focus on the topic title "Arpeggiator".
As you see the Midi FX ARP offers a very nice UI plus very extras and can be used when Logic is in Stop mode. It is very easy to load it into the Channel strip as well.
The Environment ARP works too but Logic must be running. You need some time to create a given Environment setup or to use a Template, Import Environment Layer Macro (if Any) etc.
Take your conclusion which is better...

Note: I compare two existing Midi processing methods above. The Midi FX is quite new and there are not too much complex developments yet. The Environment is recommended for Global real-time Midi Processing which can operate with Multiple Channel Strip instances, Hardware Devices etc. Both methods are ESSENTIAL!
Regards,
A.G
